Frasassi Caves
Frasassi Caves are part of a complex ipogeo system that
extends for approximately 18 kms inside the Regional Park
of Gola della Rossa and Frasassi. Discovered in 1971 and
opened to the public since 1974, they have already been
visited by more than ten million people. They are of great
geological interest an in about an hour smooth route a wonderful
natural fairy-world emphasized by a lighting system carefully
realized by the set designer Cesarini da Senigallia, can
be admired. Small lakes, inlaid stalactites and shining
stalagmites decorate rooms with arabesques of crystal and
alabaster. Wondrously fantastic are their names: “Abisso
Ancona”, ”Sala dei 200”, ”Gran Canyon”,
”Sala delle Candeline”, ”Sala Bianca”,
“Sala dell’Orsa” e “Sala dell’Infinito”.
It is also possible to visit St. Vittore’s Romanesque
Abbey in the village nearby , or go up to Madonna of Frasassi’s
Sanctuary.
